Market Linked Debentures

• MLDs are nonconvertible debentures whose returns are not fixed but linked to an underlying market index.

• The underlying index could be equity benchmark, government yield, gold index, etc.

• The tenure for MLDs typically ranges from 12 to 60 months.

• MLDs Carry credit risk and liquidity risk.

• However, from 1 April 2023, both listed and unlisted MLDs will be taxed at slab rate.

Alternative Investment Fund

Alternative Investment Fund is a special investment category that differs from conventional investment instruments. It is a privately pooled fund. Generally, institutions and HNIs invest in AIFs as substantial investments are required. 

These investment vehicles adhere to the SEBI (Alternative Investment Funds) Regulations, 2012.

Types of AIFs in India;

Category 1: Venture Capital Fund, Angel Funds, Infrastructure Funds, Social Venture Funds.

Category 2: Private Equity funds, Debt funds, Fund of funds.

Category 3: Private Investment in Public Equity Fund, Hedge Funds.
